#3 How can we all be bold Changemakers, Liza Engel?

Shownotes

A good girl follows the rules – a bold woman rewrites them. Liza Engel, Chief Sustainability Officer and transformation expert, has spent her career challenging outdated norms and pushing for real change. She shares how to step out of your comfort zone, navigate resistance, and own your space in work and life. From breaking gender stereotypes to building the right support system, this International Women’s Day Special is packed with insights into what it truly takes to be a changemaker. Because playing it safe won’t change the world – being bold will.

INSPIRATIONS TO GO – WHAT YOU CAN START WITH TODAY!
🚀 Be bold, not just "good". Being a "good girl" can hold you back. Speak up, challenge the status quo, and ask, “Is this still meaningful”? And don’t fear not being liked by everyone. Confidence grows with practice, and the more you push boundaries, the more natural it becomes.

🚀 Take risks & apply anyway. Women tend to apply for jobs only when they meet 100% of the criteria, while men often apply with just 50%. Don’t wait for perfection – go for it and learn as you move along!

🚀 Take it with humor & call it out. When facing exclusion – like an all-male cigar club at work – use humor to highlight the issue. A little wit can be a powerful way to spark change.

🎙️Liza Engel is Chief Sustainability Officer & Managing Partner at Deloitte. On top of that, she is a Communication Expert and Keynote Speaker. Find out more about Liza here!

FACTS & FIGURES CHECK
- The gender gap in the business world widens around age 30 when most people have their first child. Data from the Gender Intelligence Report show that hiring women in their early thirties is considered riskier as women may take leave or reduce their employment percentage after childbirth. This is the so-called “Maybe Baby Bias”. Interestingly, this bias affects women without children, too. Gender Intelligence Report 2024, page 9
- Women and men work an equal number of hours. The gender gap exists between PAID and UNPAID work: Women perform over 11.2 hours more per week than men. Gender Intelligence Report 2023, page 12
- Stereotypical gender roles also affect career choices, especially in tech fields. And it is tech that offers particularly high salaries and plays a key role in our modern economy. With only 31% of the tech degrees held by women, they are massively underrepresented. In a Europe-wide comparison, Switzerland ranks at the bottom. OUR HIGHLIGHT – PICKED OUT FOR YOU
It is totally okay not being liked by everyone! As Liza puts it: “Part of being bold for me is challenging the status quo. Speaking up when you have a different opinion. Not being worried about not everybody liking you.”
